Saturday 11:45am for 1st time decided to pay a visit to a new and very elegant restaurant, located in an industrial area of town, and I might add, has received nothing but praise from my friends. The sign on the door said Tues-Fri 11:30 open and then closed Sun and Mon...Nothing about Saturday. I figured they were probably late in opening and observed 2 other cars pulled up, checked it out and drove on...so my friend an I decided to go shopping and stop back by again...Mind you, the location of this place is not easily on the way to much of anything. Anyway, we stopped back by an hour later and observed even more patrons sitting in front of the place, so we decided to get out and walk up to the door and look inside to get a feel of what we were missing. I must say, the bar area was absolutely beautiful, very elegent high end indeed. A lady walked up, checked out the sign and was as perplexed as we were as to what happens on Saturday...The lady knocked on the door (lights were on also) and then she left. My friend and I continued to window shop on the gift side, and then a blonde young lady walked out of the back and waived us away...My friend asked her what time they opened nothing on the sign...The lady gave a roll of her eyes at us, no smile, walked over to the door waiving at us and saying "we're not open". We said obviously, but your sign doesnt have anything about Saturday on it...she said we dont open until 5PM and turned around and walked away. I for some reason dont see this happening in the "real" Napa area, and unfortuneatly her rudeness has actually put me off...I will definetly tell my fair share of people how rude and snooty this person was and if she was any reflection of the rest of the staff, I will insure that I try and steer everyone I know elsewhere!!!

We had dinner there last night and I wasn't the least bit favorably impressed. My friend said it was pricey and I thought it was just plain robbery for what you get. At their prices they ought to use a gun. Their pot stickers were dry and tasteless. The calamari was good but like everything else it was overpriced. The veal was like shoe leather and overseasoned with something. I had one of the worst Cesar Salads I have ever had, and by the look of the menu these fools think they're in northern California. Eleven or twelve bucks for a cheeseburger, What's it made out out sacred a cow? Four dollars for a draft beer, they're nuts. Where the hell do they think they are Honolulu or Paris?

The place was half empty and now I can see why. Those of you that were turned away because they we closed during their posted hours were lucky. It'll be a cold day in hell when I go back and I'll tell anyone who asks why. Anyone want to make book on how long these clowns stay open? Hank Alvarez Corona CA.
Their location sucks too, unless all you want is freeway exhaust.

I don't know about the problems Mary and Henry had, but maybe things have changed. I have had the greatest time at Napa 29. There is a guitar player named Dave Weaver who plays there about three times a month who is fantastic. If you don't want to spend the money on the meals, get the bar hors d'oeuvres, very good and plentiful. It's a sophisticated atmosphere, so you don't get the local "drunks" coming in, which is very refreshing. Hopefully, Mary and Henry will try again and update their emails.

I too had a wonderful time at Napa 29, the service was excellent and the food was even better. Just don't order the Purple Martini, it was so strong I almost cried :)

Mary, there was no reason for that person to be rude to you... | Jenise Email | 06-May-2003 18:22
...but don't hold it against the restaurant.

Reason #1: Although it's odd that the restaurant didn't list their Saturday hours, in the kind of area you describe it's pretty much a sure-bet that the restaurant will not be open for lunch on weekends. Their lunch clientele will be largely local business traffic, people who work M-F schedules, and there's not enough weekend traffic to justify opening early (where, of course, Saturday night will be their biggest night).

Reason #2: You'll be cutting off your own nose not giving them another chance--where you are (I'm a Southern Californian, too), there are so few upscale, original restaurants. If you really enjoy good food, know that one employee acting rudely, especially outside the restaurant and having nothing to do with actual food service, doesn't poison the whole staff. As for telling everyone you know, don't do that either. That twit who was rude to you could be gone tomorrow, and this restaurant employs some 25 or 30 other who are not rude, who need to make a living, and who are the spouses and children of your friends and neighbors. The good that a small, independent, high-quality restaurant does for your community is a lot more important than your relatively minor experience.

absolutely true, industrial area yes, however very plain view of the freeway and lot's of advertisement, which is why I decided to stop by with my friend. Many of the wholesale to public type stores around it are open (several furniture, bbq, tire store, etc.) As far as business on Saturday, it was very interesting in just the 1st stop we made assuming it opened at 11:30 2 cars of people also waiting. Again coming back at 12:30 a driver knocking on door with 3 passengers waiting, joined by a SUV pulling up woman getting out also to check out the times shrugging & saying oh, well, then leaving.
Will be interesting when and if I do go back to see if saturday hours are posted and if that employee cared enough to forward our request. I"m not saying she should have welcomed with open arms and opend the doors, just an understanding nod when we pointed to the sign, saying we dont see Saturday on here intead of being short & curt. Even the roll of the eyes was not warranted. businesses need to train employees for every dishappy customer they usually tell 12 people about the experience.
thanks jenise, I'll consider your advise.

I really enjoyed Napa 29. My husband is a chef and he thought the food good (like a B average). But more even then the food, being from Corona, origianlly, I'm sick and tired of being forced into LA. Pasadena, or Hollywood to find somewhere that serves decent food and wine. I'm glad a little class finally came to Corona. It's about time.

And yes their food is more expensive. But that is because the product that they purchase is of a higher quality. Better produxt costs more money.
