Thanks for the note, Dan - it's been a while since I've sat down to study a varietal Seyval. Unfortunately, they are getting few and far between as VQA items grown in Ontario.
My feeling regarding the thinness is that it is likely due to growers taking a bit more liberty with yields than is probably optimal. I've had Seyval from Vineland Estates (when they used to make a varietal VQA example) that had very respectable texture. Also, Stoney Ridge Cellars made an oaked Seyval in '98 that was a completely unique wine - and very hybridy too, unlike most Seyvals that tend to be quite neutral.
